Challenges Faced by Legal Counsels in Big Data and Cybersecurity Activity

Pierre Douvreleur, General Counsel, Atos

Atos’ traditional activity is to provide IT services. Since the acquisition and integration of numerous companies over these last few years including the Bull company, a new activity has been created and that has exponentially developed. This activity is known as Big Data and CyberSecurity (“BDS”) and actually corresponds to the activities that were initially done by the Bull company prior to its acquisition. Unlike most of the IT services provided by Atos, BDS (incorporating several companies such as Bull and Evidian) is a relatively new department that differs because it provides multiple solutions and products to clients that are specifically linked to high performance computing, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, critical communication systems, defense and aerospace electronics. BDS has developed over timeboth hardware and software products in reaction to new technologies and all its consequences it may have, notably those linked to cybersecurity.
