US - EU Safe Harbor Framework: The Changing Landscape of Cross-Border Transfers of Personal Data

Abstract

We are living in the age of data. Billions of pieces of personal information are generated and transferred between businesses every day, spurring the growth of the digital economy. These transfers are not constrained by geographic borders, and businesses depend on cross-border transfers of personal data to continue this growth. Singling out the relationship between the European Union and the United States for discussion, these two territories have a complex relationship with relation to data privacy.
