Malaysian Anti-Sexual Harassment Act 2022 – An Overview

Abstract

The Malaysian Anti-Sexual Harassment Act 2022 (“ASH Act”) has finally been passed as law in Malaysia after going through the usual procedures applicable for this legislation to be passed as law in Malaysia. The Anti-Sexual Harassment Bill 2021 (“ASH Bill”) was tabled in the Malaysian House of Representatives (Dewan Rakyat) for its first reading on 15 December 2021 and then for its second reading on 19 July 2022. The Dewan Rakyat passed the ASH Bill on 20 July 2022. Thereafter, the ASN Bill was tabled in and passed by the Malaysian Dewan Negara (Senate) on 11 August 2022. After that, royal assent was granted by His Majesty, the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong for the ASH Bill to become law on 8 October 2022. It was gazetted and published in the Malaysian Gazette on 18 October 2022.
