Mediation: The Jimmy Carter Way!

December 2024
ArbitrationGeneral

Abstract

Tributes have abounded for James Earl Carter, Jnr., the 39th President of the United States of America who died in late December 2024. This virtually unknown Southern peanut-farmer-turned-politician, former Governor of the State of Georgia, emerged from quite nigh nowhere to claim the Presidency of the USA in 1976. “My name is Jimmy Carter. And I am running for President” – his famous opening lines when he accepted his party’s nomination for President in 1976, underscoring the dark-horse nature of his rise to the highest office in his country. In response to “Jimmy, who?!”, the gentleman from Plains, Georgia – of all names of towns, truly ironical, perhaps even sardonic, in the context – could not have delivered a more biting indictment to all those naysayers who were dismissing his candidature. It may well have also been “Plains, where?”!
