How Can Law Enforcement Make Ethical Use of Artificial Intelligence?
Abstract
I last wrote an article for this publication in Autumn 2023 commenting on how ethics committees can guide In- house Counsel through the regulatory and professional minefield that they face in delivering legal services in-house. I described my role as the In-house Counsel for a major law enforcement agency in the South West of England and explained that policing has been relatively late to the table in discussing the ethical issues associated with the powers used by police officers and police staff every day. I further described how policing had borrowed with pride from the Health service in England and Wales which had, much earlier, approved an ethical code for professionals operating in the Health service in the United Kingdom.
