Energy Security and New Geopolitical Equilibria Legal Implications for Businesses The Role of the General Counsel Between Law, Corporate Diplomacy, and Geopolitical Risk Management
Abstract
In recent years, energy security has emerged as one of the central issues on the global geopolitical agenda. The war in Ukraine, tensions in the Middle East, the Red Sea crisis, the prolonged instability of Venezuela—marked by severe political confrontation, international sanctions, and recurring military tensions—and competition over critical raw materials have reshaped the priorities of governments and businesses alike. Today, energy security is no longer merely a matter of supply or infrastructure: it has become a cross-cutting legal category in which international law, economic regulation, ESG compliance, and industrial policy intersect.
