Dr. Michael J. Ram is Senior Counsel at Koppel, Patrick Heybl & Philpott located in Westlake Village, CA where he handles intellectual property matters Worldwide. His expertise includes all aspects of US and foreign patent prosecution including procedures and issues resulting from the passage and implementation of the America Invents Act (AIA) and the US National Stage filing for protection of inventions of foreign and PCT patent applications. In addition, he advises clients on a broad range of contract matters relating to the acquisition, transfer and protection of technology. Dr. Ram earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Lafayette College, a M.S. and D.Sc. in Chem. Eng. from New Jersey Institute of Technology and a JD from Seton Hall Law. He has over 40 years' experience handling IP matters as a research engineer, an inventor with over 20 US patents, patent attorney, in-house patent counsel, General Counsel and partner in Los Angeles based law firms. He has also written extensively on IP Matters and the Licensing of Technology and has taught the legal aspects of technology protection and transfer at UC Berkley.
