Legal Aspects of Immersive Technologies

Abstract

Immersive technologies, including virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality are increasingly deployed within industrial applications. Despite the added value they offer, there are still numerous legal and practical considerations that shall be examined before integrating immersive technologies into routine practice. This article explores the legal aspects of the deployment of immersive technologies within industrial applications, including in particular data privacy, confidentiality and liability facets as well as contractual framework and sector specific legislative developments.

Jirí Cerný has been in the position of Legal Director for Czech Republic and Slovakia at Microsoft since December 2011. His previous office was the law firm ROWAN LEGAL, where he led the ICT board. Previously, Jirí Cerný worked for BT Global Services (part of the British Telecommunications plc group), where he was responsible for managing legal affairs in the CEE region. Jirí Cerný also worked for five years at Eurotel Praha, where he was responsible for the legal aspects of telecommunication regulation. Jirí Cerný is a graduate of the Law Faculty of Masaryk University in Brno and the law faculty of K.U.LEUVEN in Belgium where he specialized in ICT law.

Olga Slipetska

Olga Slipetska’s expertize is focused around corporate governance, data protection as well as legal aspects of immersive technologies (VR/AR/MR). She has participated in several international projects in the context of IT and telecommunications sectors and has been handling internal data privacy-related initiatives. Prior to joining Pierstone Olga worked as the Legal Adviser for the Czech subsidiary of Oracle Corporation providing support to the CIS and German-speaking jurisdictions.
