Current Trends V/s Traditional Trends in Legal Outsourcing
Abstract
Legal Process Outsourcing is a unique blend of legal knowledge and technical expertise. The legal industry across the globe is gradually turning towards outsourcing in order to control their ever growing legal costs & strategic measures are being adopted to gain efficiencies and staying profitable in a highly competitive marketplace. The rationale behind Legal Outsourcing is to facilitate in-house counsels of the multi-national corporations, Law-firms to concentrate on its core competencies and other important legal issues, which requires their due attention. The traditional trend in outsourcing of legal services relates to low-end work, which is generally performed by paralegals and legal assistants. However, recent trends have seen outsourcing of high-end work such as legal research on a particular matter based on country specific statutes, case-law search through legal databases such as LexisNexis, West-law, Filing of Trade Mark applications, TM search, Drafting of Patent applications, prior art search, etc. are amongst some of the trends witnessed in the legal outsourcing. This article is an attempt to provide the insight of how in-house counsels are outsourcing legal functions to offshore destinations such as India and the key points to remember while outsourcing legal functions & selecting a vendor.
